A pool surround, rebuilt from the base
The old flagstone surround was past its best. We removed it, excavated to firm ground and are rebuilding the base and edges before the new surround goes down.

What makes pool paving last
Most failed pool surrounds fail underneath. Pavers crack, lift or sink because the base was rushed. Every Terraza pool surround includes:
- A compacted crushed-rock base or reinforced concrete slab, depending on soil and paver type.
- Falls away from the pool so rain and splash water drains to garden or grates, not back into the pool or against the shell.
- Slip-rated finishes suitable for wet, barefoot areas. We'll show you the slip rating (AS 4586) of every product we quote.
- Correct coping detail: drop-face, bullnose or square edge, bedded and pointed to suit your pool's bond beam.
- Pool-barrier awareness: we plan paving levels, steps and planters so they don't create climbable objects near a compliant pool fence.
- Sealing and a care guide for your stone and water type (chlorine or salt).

What's the best paver for around a pool?
Travertine is the most popular because it stays cooler and grips well. Granite and porcelain are the lowest maintenance. Bluestone suits contemporary homes but gets hotter in summer. We'll bring samples to your site.
Can you pave over my existing concrete?
Often, yes, if the slab is sound, level and has the right falls. We check for cracks and drainage issues during the site visit before recommending it.
How long does pool paving take?
A typical residential pool surround of 40–80 m² takes 1–3 weeks, depending on the base, the stone and the weather.
Do salt pools need special pavers?
Yes. Salt can damage soft stone. We recommend dense stone or porcelain and a penetrating sealer suited to salt water.
