Types of retaining walls

Why walls lean and fail
Almost always water. Without an ag drain and free-draining backfill, water builds up behind the wall and pushes it over. Every Terraza wall gets drainage, gravel backfill and footings set for the height and soil.
Permits and engineering
Low garden walls usually don't need a permit. Taller walls, walls supporting a building or driveway, and walls on boundaries may need engineering and a building permit. We check before quoting and arrange the engineer if needed.

What's the cheapest retaining wall?
Treated pine sleepers are usually the most affordable; concrete sleepers cost more but last much longer.
How high can a wall be without a permit?
It depends on the site and council; many low garden walls are fine, but taller or load-bearing walls need engineering. We'll check yours.
Can you fix a leaning wall?
Usually the wall is replaced with proper drainage behind it. Bracing a failing wall rarely lasts.
