Low-maintenance front yard ideas that work in Melbourne

  • Stepping stones in pebbles instead of a full lawn path: no mowing edges, and water drains straight through.
  • A small, defined lawn with a hard edge (steel, brick or timber), so the mower does the edge for you.
  • Formal hedging along the fence line: one trim a season keeps the whole yard looking designed.
  • Mulch or pebble beds with drip irrigation to cut weeds and watering time.
  • Low-voltage garden lighting along paths for safety and street appeal at night.
  • Brick or stone edging that separates garden from path and stops mulch washing out.

Drainage and levels first

A garden that looks good but holds water won't last. Before planting, we set levels so water falls away from the house, install drainage where needed and build retaining walls on sloping blocks.

Yes. For most front and backyards we measure, sketch a layout and material options, and quote the build. For larger projects we also build from a landscape architect's plans.

How long does a front yard take?

A typical townhouse front yard takes around 1 week. Larger gardens with retaining walls or paving take 2–4 weeks.

What's the lowest-maintenance option?

Stepping stones in pebbles, a small edged lawn or none at all, hedging and mulch beds on drip irrigation.

Do you remove the old garden and soil?

Yes. Demolition, excavation and removal are all part of our job, so you only deal with one team.
