Recycled brick or new clay pavers?
Recycled bricks give that warm, lived-in look that suits period homes, Californian bungalows and weatherboards. Each brick is different, so the pattern has character. They need careful sorting and a good base because thicknesses vary.
New clay brick pavers are consistent in size and colour, made to be walked and driven on, and faster to lay. They suit contemporary homes and driveways.

Patterns we lay
- Herringbone (45° or 90°): the strongest pattern for driveways because bricks lock together. Our most requested finish.
- Stretcher bond: clean lines for paths and narrow side passages.
- Basketweave: traditional, great for courtyards.
- Soldier-course borders: a restraining edge on every job, so the field doesn't spread.
Why brick paving sinks, and how we prevent it
Most brick paving failures start below the brick: soft ground, a thin base or no edge restraint. On every Terraza brick job we excavate to firm ground, compact a crushed-rock base in layers, screed a bedding layer to the right falls, lay with tight joints, and lock the edges with a soldier course set in concrete.

Lifted by tree roots, sunken near a downpipe or loose along the edge? We lift the affected area, fix the base and drainage, and relay the original bricks, so the repair blends in.

Brick paving FAQ
Can recycled bricks be used on a driveway?
Yes, if the bricks are sound and the base is built for cars. Driveways need a deeper compacted base or a concrete slab underneath. We check the bricks and the ground before recommending it.
Do I need to seal brick paving?
It's optional. A penetrating sealer helps against stains and moss in shady areas and brings out the colour. We'll recommend it where it makes sense.
How long does a brick courtyard take?
A typical 30–60 m² courtyard takes around 1–2 weeks, including excavation, base, laying and clean-up.
Can you match my existing bricks?
Usually. We source recycled bricks from Melbourne suppliers and reuse your existing bricks where possible so repairs and extensions blend in.
